The Greenest Home: Superinsulated and Passive House Design

Alas, this book seems to suggest that all of them are boxes, flat roofs, big square things without any charm. I know this is my own bias. I haven't been to architecture school . But to show houses in beautiful photos and wonderful detail and to fail to include one with charm does a disservice to the Passive House movement. Even the one or two with fairly conventional roof lines are amazingly modern within. Much better balance of designs.

Each case study includes plans, photographs and a detailed project description. An appendix lists useful technical information. While I didn't see a home I want to live in, I fully endorse the concept of passive house construction. I actually found that I liked some of the modern designs despite my initial resistance.

For nearly the same cost as "normal" houses, they reduce energy usage to a tiny fraction of that "normal" house. Great resource for building envelope assembly ideas. I was able to find a home that had a similar assembly to the one I am planning. I called the home builder listed in the book, and he was a great resource as well.
